After living in my 1991 Volkswagen Westfalia for 20 months, I knew that this vehicle was the best investment that I could make for this point in my life. So when the stock 2.1L VW motor blew its guts, I knew that it was worth every penny to invest in a worthy power plant! After a lot of research I decided that I wanted to go with a subaru conversion. I went with a 2000 Subaru 2.5RS motor. It is a 2.5L naturally aspirated boxxer type motor. Very similar shape to the stock vanagon waterboxxer motor but a complete different animal in engineering. A stock vanagon 2.1L motor is estimated at 90HP. The Subaru 2.5L motor is estimated at 166HP. In this video I go indepth with some details on what and why I did with my conversion.
